Join us for a pre-concert talk with James Thompson, professor of applied and social theater at the University of Manchester and founder and co-director of In Place of War, a project that supports arts in war and conflict zones.
World Music Concert | 8 p.m.
From Syria, clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh (“intensely soulful, a virtuoso,” The New York Times), is joined by painter and digital artist Kevork Mourad, and filmmaker and writer Khalil Younes in a live, 60-minute audio-visual performance that is the centerpiece of the evenings’ exploration of the role of the artist in the context of violent conflict. Also on the program is a premiere of a new work by Azmeh and Younes for clarinet, electronics, and string quartet, performed with the Lydian String Quartet.
