Waltham’s Kennedy and McDevitt Middle School PTOs will welcome internet safety expert Katie Greer to lead an in-depth presentation for Waltham middle school parents on Internet Safety on MAY 18, 2015 at 6:30 PM at THE KENNEDY MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM. The presentation, entitled “Kids, Teens and Technology - What Every Parent Needs to Know,” is a comprehensive examination of “what’s new, what’s now, and what’s next” when it comes to children and technology, and how we can protect our children in today’s technology-driven world. This presentation, made possible by funding provided by the Moody Street 5K and the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation (WEBF), hopes to raise parents’ awareness of the latest technology trends and dangers, cyberbullying laws and regulations, and to provide parents with proactive steps to make sure kids are safely using technology. Students at both middle schools will attend one of four student presentations during the morning and afternoon on the same day parents are invited to the evening program. In the middle school years, many kids have social networking accounts and are actively networking with others using various forms of technology. The student presentation stresses that there are consequences for their actions, as once they send, save or share, their information is out there - and stays out there - forever. For over 7 years, Katie Greer has provided Internet/technology safety training to schools, law enforcement agencies, national conferences, and community organizations throughout the country. Her unique educational and professional background has resulted in dynamic programs that appeal to all age groups. Katie has been featured in Time Magazine, The Huffington Post, USA Today, and CNN, and has visited schools across the nation educating students and parents.
