When: Saturday, April 25 at 5:00 PM
Where: Rose Art Museum, Lois Foster Gallery
Description: Pretty Raw takes the work of the artist Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) as the point of departure for an alternative version of modernist art over the past 50 years, a story usually written as a series of male masters. In this new history, decoration, humor, femininity and masculinity, the everyday, sensual pleasure, artifice, illusion, and authorial control take center stage, as artists from the 1950s through the present explore personal, social, and political meanings alongside sheer, gorgeous materiality.
Join Curator-At-Large Katy Siegel in conversation with artists Kathy Butterly and Carrie Moyer, both included in the exhibition Pretty Raw: After and Around Helen Frankenthaler.
Presented as part of the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts.
