The Solstice Sackbuts is a chamber trio offering many types of programs, including medieval and Renaissance music, as well as Classical programs, pop and jazz. The sackbut is a brass instrument derived from the medieval slide trumpet during the Renaissance and Baroque Eras, and evolved into the modern trombone. The name sackbut is derived from Middle French sacquer “to push” + bouter “to pull”. We perform on soprano, alto, tenor and bass trombones. A new group recently formed in August of 2010, the Solstice Sackbuts have already performed at many different venues throughout eastern and central Massachusetts.
