Charles River Museum Celebrates Armistice Day Centennial with a Music Theme This Month

November 11, 2018 is the centennial of Armistice Day, the date in 1918 that World War I ended. To honor this historic occasion, The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is hosting three exceptional musical events to celebrate veterans who’ve served our nation in wartime.
The first event is Sunday afternoon, November 4th, when Diane Taraz in her one woman show “Til We Meet Again,” performs songs of the first World War and explores through music and prose the experiences of people at home and at war during that tumultuous time.
Then, on Wednesday evening, November 14th, celebrated singer/songwriter Mary Gauthier performs in concert at the Museum following the release of “Rifles and Rosary Beads,” her album of songs co-written with veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Ten dollars of each ticket purchased will go to Songwriting With:Soldiers, the nonprofit with whom Mary has been working to collaborate with soldiers and veterans on songwriting, as a way to help cope with their stress.
The big finish is on Friday evening, November 16th, when we host “Sentimental Journey: A Big Band Dance Party Celebration.” This extraordinary event features a full, traditional 18-piece jazz big band in the Glenn Miller tradition, accompanied by a 4-piece female vocal group, performing World War II era swing dance standards. Join Dan Gabel and the Abletones, featuring the Moon Maids, and dance the night away.Knowing there are many ceremonies planned to honor our veterans on this centennial, we add our voices of profound appreciation of our veterans with these three celebrations through music. We invite you to join us!  Click here to view the letter from Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation's Celebrating Veterans Through Music events.
