The Waltham Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to enriching the community through inter-disciplinary, multi-ethnic and inspiring programming for our concert series and educational outreach programs.
Outreach - Musicians in Schools
Our "Musicians in Schools" program works with inner-city schools. Selected musicians from the orchestra develop musical animations including a learning curriculum for students of Waltham schools. One of the goals of the orchestra is to have students perform throughout the year with the Orchestra on stage at various venues and throughout the community. Music has the ability to bring many different cultures together. This program will blend the European tradition of classical music with the wide range of music from other traditions which the Waltham community represents.
Internships & Volunteering Opportunities
The Waltham Symphony is looking into resuming its internship program in the Fall, for arts administration students gaining college credit for work provided with the Symphony. These interns help with all aspects of the orchestra's life and management.
Music lectures are integrated into the concert experience. Maestro Botti speaks to the audience members during the performance giving them an overview of history and other details of the music being performed, making the performance more accessible to a broader range of the public.
The Waltham Symphony Orchestra recognizes that the cost of tickets can be prohibitive for many. For that reason, the orchestra has chosen to offer our concerts for free to the public. Of course, donations are very much appreciated, and accepted both on-line and at the door.
The Waltham Symphony wants to make "going to the symphony" a fun and enriching experience. Its programming reflects this philosophy. The orchestra innovates in its programming, presenting works by living American composers, performing pieces from the traditional symphonic repertoire and also favoring musical exploration of other musical genres and cultures.
