Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Drew Echelson has released his first letter of the year to the community where he provides an update on strategic planning and elementary capacity. Dr. Echelson spent the first few months of his administration getting to know the community and listening to the concerns of parents and residents. “It is now time to transition from entry into strategic planning,” Echelson stated.

Donate a Blanket and Give the Gift of Warmth

RTN Federal Credit Union is joining with the Cooperative Credit Union Association and other participating credit unions to collect new blankets for the homeless. The blankets will be donated to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless for distribution.

Drop-offs can be made at RTN, 600 Main Street, Waltham, through Saturday, January 30, during regular business hours.
Last year, RTN and 22 credit unions, as well as the Association, collected more than 675 blankets. Since 2011, credit unions have donated more than 3,050 blankets to those in need throughout the state.

There, atop a hill off of Trapelo Road, stands a house illuminated in Christmas lights.  But there's more to the story.  This has been a labor of love for the Schueler family for 3 generations and over 27 years.  Fred and Barbara Scheuler may be retired, but they haven't retired from keeping the family tradition alive.  Fred is a retired Logan Airport firefighter and Barbara is a retired medical industry administrator.  Their son Dave, a cook at Winchester Hospital, has taken over the heavy work.  Every October as the summer changes to autumn, Dave begins the process of converting his home

For a moment on an unusually warm December morning, people from all walks of life, faiths and nationalities came to downtown Waltham to pay their respects to Corporal Robert Campbell Dakin who went missing on the 12th of December, 1950 during the Korean War.  Corporal Dakin was promoted to Sergeant when he was listed as killed in action, body not recovered.
