NOTE: This concert was originally scheduled for August 14 and due to rain it is now scheduled for Thursday, August 16th. It's a patriotic night as the 2018 Waltham Arts Council Concerts on the Common Series presents the Waltham American Legion Band celebrating Veterans National Night Out! The Waltham American Legion Band is the first American Band to ever perform in the former USSR, and has been playing in the United States and Europe since 1948. Taking her band to England, Germany and Ireland, founding leader Dot Hill of Waltham organized the group to celebrate patriotic music for a variety of venues.
Today, the band consists of about fifty members both veterans and civilians ranging in age from teens to nineties hailing from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Performances include concerts, parades and special events most recently appearing in Washington, DC and Canada. The band is a community organization consisting of three entities, a Concert Band, a Marching Band and a Trolley Band. Membership is open to all ages and there are no fees or auditions. You do not have to be affiliated, nor have served, with any military branch. You also do not have to be a member of the American Legion to join the band.
So, bring your blankets and chairs and join us for a delightful evening of patriotic music in the outdoors! All concerts start at 7:00 PM. Hot dogs, soft drinks, water, popcorn, cookies and pizza are available for purchase during the concerts. In case of rain, this concert will be held on Thursday, August 16th .
